Smart sensor interface to the CAN bus
Signals from sensors or modules, transferred to CAN bus

CAN-BOARDs are compact, easy-to-use devices that connect sensors or modules to the CAN bus. CAN boards acquire data (such as temperature, frequency, acceleration, and geographic location) from the sensor they are connected to and transmit it via the CAN bus. Each CAN board is designed to work with a specific sensor or module.

Engineered for multiple uses

Thanks to the CAN 2.0B communication protocol and the robust IP67 design, CAN-BOARDs are perfectly suited to a wide range of professional and demanding sectors.:

  • Motorsport & Vehicle Dynamics

  • Laboratory & R&D

  • Industrial & Heavy Machinery

CAN-BOARDs

CAN-BOARD-ACCELEROMETER: 3-axis accelerometer sensor data, available on CAN bus

CAN-BOARD-Accelerometer is a compact and lightweight module capable of detecting accelerations along the three spatial axes X, Y, Z and sending the value (with 16-bit resolution) on the CAN bus.

CAN-BOARD-LOADCELL: Get datas from load cell sensor and send them over the CAN bus

CAN-BOARD-LoadCell detects the voltage differential of the wheatstone bridge of each load cell (or any sensor that uses this configuration to measure physical quantities).

CAN-BOARD-GNSS: geographical coordinates (latitude longitude), ground speed, date and time transmitted over the CAN bus

CAN-BOARD-GNSS detects geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude), ground speed, date, and time via a GNSS-GPS module and transmits them over the CAN bus.

CAN-BOARD-OPTO: 2 digital input opto-isolated to detect the frequency and send the value over the on CAN bus

CAN-BOARD-OPTO detects the frequency of up to 2 periodic signals (via an opto-isolated input) and sends the value (with a 32-bit resolution) on the CAN bus.

Introductions to CAN-BOARD modules

CAN-BOARDs are programmable modules capable of detecting various electrical or physical signals (or electrical signals from sensors), processing them, and transmitting them over the CAN bus. For example, you can use the CAN-BOARD-LoadCell to detect the signal from a load cell (force sensing) and send the data over the CAN bus of a data logger or automotive system. You can also use the CAN-BOARD-GPS to detect geographic coordinates and ground speed via GNSS and send them over the CAN bus.

CAN-BOARDs can be programmed using the GUBELLINI DataSuite software (via a USB-C connection) to define the CAN ID, CAN baud rate, sampling frequency, and other parameters. All CAN-BOARDs share a common set of configuration parameters and some parameters specific to the specific model. Once programmed, each time the CAN-BOARD is turned on, it will detect the input signals (derived from a sensor or module) and transmit them over the CAN bus according to the programming specifications.

CAN-BOARDs are designed for use in various fields (such as laboratory analysis and monitoring, machinery monitoring, precision agriculture, industrial monitoring, process analysis, automotive, motorsport, etc.). Each CAN-BOARD is also easily usable with our GUBELOG and MICROLOG dataloggers thanks to the datalogging capability via CAN bus.

All the CAN-BOARDs comes with the free GUBELLINI DataStudio suite, the software that enables full management of the device. By connecting the device via USB, you can access the setup screen. As shown in the reference image, the “Sensor configuration ” panel allows you to set all the parameters to fit CAN-BOARDs to your needs.

Configuration of device
  • CAN ID: CAN-BOARDs divide the data transmission into 4 distinct CAN identifiers (e.g. 100, 101, 102, 103 in HEX format). These fields allow you to customize the ID on which the CAN packets are transmitted (so as to avoid conflicts with other control units already present on your CAN network).

  • CAN ID format: Select the identifier format between 11 bits (Standard) or 29 bits (Extended), depending on the requirements of your logger (e.g. GUBELOG-03 or third – party devices ).

  • Baud rate: Select the communication speed of the CAN network (e.g., 1Mbps for high-density networks). Make sure all devices on the bus share the same speed.

  • Transmission frequency: Sets the CAN packet update rate (e.g. 50Hz, or up to the maximum value of 100Hz depending on the load allowed by the bus).

  • Read/Write Buttons: Use the lower right buttons to read the current configuration from the device or write the new configuration to the GUBENAV’s permanent memory.

Housing

The MICROLOG housing is made from PA12+35%GF nylon, a high-quality material with excellent mechanical properties that can withstand shocks and vibrations. It is ideal for use in harsh environments.
